This document checklist is one of the forms that you need to submit together with your application. Also retain a copy for your file.
Ensure that you submit the required documents as listed below for efficient processing. Incomplete applications cannot be
processed.
Format: All copies must be submitted in full A4-size paper and in 2 sets. DO NOT STAPLE THE DOCUMENTS.
Ensure that you also submit this checklist together with the FORM 15 application form, which is attached on page 3 below. Only a
notarial or certification seal is be permitted on the back of Form 15.
Fee: 230 Euros.
Processing time: 6 MONTHS OR MORE. Renunciation applications are forwarded to the Department of Immigration Services in Nairobi for
processing. You will receive a letter from the Embassy once your application has been forwarded to Kenya.
Communication: All inquiries on the status of your application should be sent per email to [email protected]. You must
also enter an active email address and telephone number on the indicated field on this checklist.
Important Note: A Renunciation Letter is only issued after each application has undergone a thorough process of scrutiny in Kenya.
The Embassy will contact the applicant once we receive feedback on the application. Should your address change during the
process, notify the Embassy immediately in writing.

Document Checklist and Application Form 15
REQUIREMENTS
1. Two (2) original duly filled application Form 15. Your signature on Form 15 must be notarized by a Notary Public
(Notar) or certified by the Einbürgerungsbehörde with an official stamp and the name of the certifying official.
(Unterschriftsbeglaubigung). Photocopies are not permissible.
2. Two (2) photocopies of the original Assurance of Naturalisation (Einbürgerungszusicherung) that is valid for at
least one (1) year OR German Naturalisation Certificate (Einbürgerungsurkunde) if you are already naturalized.
3. Two (2) copies of an official English translation of the Einbürgerungsurkunde or Einbürgerungszusicherung.
4. Your original Kenyan ID card and two (2) photocopies of the front and back. (See no. 1 and 2 below)
5. Your original Passport and two (2) photocopies each of the last 2 pages and the photo page.
6. Two (2) photocopies of the front and back of your birth certificate.
7. A bank transfer receipt of the non-refundable passport fee Euro 230.00 payable only by bank transfer (Embassy of the
Republic of Kenya, IBAN: DE63100400000266014004). The Applicant’s name should be the reference.
8. For sending your confirmation letter: A self-addressed, A4-size envelope with stamps and Einschreiben Einwurf
pre-registration.
9. For sending your certificate: A self-addressed, A4-size envelope with stamps and Einschreiben Rückschein pre-
registration.

IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION
1.
A Sworn Affidavit is only accepted for those who have never held an ID card. Attach 2 copies
of the English-language affidavit notarised by a Notary Public in your local area of residence.
2.
If your ID card is lost, you must present in 2 sets, a police report of the loss and a sworn affidavit
from a Notary public as well as a confirmation from Huduma Center in Kenya that the ID card is
declared lost and you have not applied for a replacement.
3.
Children cannot renounce Kenyan citizenship until they turn 18. If your underage child is
also to be naturalized, write an official letter to the Embassy to request for a confirmation to this
effect and attach a copy of the child’s passport and birth certificate. DO NOT fill in an application or
make any payment for a child under 18!
4.
If your Einbürgerungszusicherung bears a surname different from that on your passport, you
will have to go back to be issued an Einbürgerungszusicherung with the names that appear on
your Kenyan passport.
5.
If your Einbürgerungsurkunde bears a surname different from that on your passport you will
have to attach an affidavit in the English language swearing that you are one and the same person
and documents supporting the name. Ensure that you send these additional documents in 2 sets.
6.
If your Kenya passport is reported lost you will have to apply for a replacement before
applying for renunciation. Check for lost passport requirements on the Embassy website.
7.
Keep copies of all the documents you have submitted for future reference.
8.
If you wish to retain your passport while your application is being processed, write an official
letter to this effect (the letter must also include your email address in order for us to email you
when your renunciation letters are received). Send the letter with the application documents and
keep the originals. You will however have to surrender them before your letters are handed over to
you.
9.
You will receive a letter of confirmation once your application has been forwarded to Nairobi. Have
this letter translated and present it to the German authorities as proof of having made the application.
10.
Apart from the confirmation letter stated in No.8 above, the Embassy does not issue any other written
status updates until the Renunciation Letter or any other communication is received from the
Department of Immigration in Nairobi. You will be immediately contacted once your
Renunciation Letter is received.
