In just a little over two months, your Mines experience officially begins! But who's counting? We are...and we hope you're
as excited as we are to welcome you to our community! While you're finishing high school and celebrating graduation,
Mines students are busy spending their summer at field sessions, internships, taking summer courses or enjoying a break
with family and friends.
And in case you missed it, May 8 was World Donkey Day, Blaster the Burro's favorite day! In a few short months, you'll
see why we love burros. In the meantime, check out the video below to learn about the history of our favorite mascot.
Have you checked your Mines email lately?
Now is the time to start getting in the habit of checking your Mines email regularly. Many departments will
only
communicate with you via this account, so we don't want you to miss any important updates. Your Mines email address is
the same as the credentials you used when you claimed your Mines Multipass account, which gives you access to
Trailhead.
If you have not claimed your Mines Multipass account, please do so as soon as possible.
Mines email addresses follow this format: [your username]@mines.edu.
We recommend using Office365 online to access your Mines email. More information on getting started with all things
technology at Mines is available on the Mines Information & Technology Solutions (ITS) website.

Check the boxes on your Oredigger Checklist, Carson! Reminders from Admissions
Update Your Email Address - If you are currently using a high school or college email address that will be terminated,
please ensure that we have your most up-to-date email address on record. To inform us of an update, please
email [email protected] with your CWID and new email address.
Send Your Final Official High School and/or College Transcripts - Your final high school transcript is critical in
helping us build your fall semester course schedule. Please remember to request your final official high school transcript at
the end of the semester (and before your school closes for summer break) and have it sent directly to our office from a
school counselor or representative.
Final official transcripts must display your graduation date and must be
received by July 1, 2022, for the Registrar's Office to create your fall semester schedule.
AP/IB Scores - Ensure that you have selected Colorado School of Mines to receive your AP or IB scores by June 30,
2022, so that they are submitted directly from the testing agency (College Board and/or IBO) to the Registrar's Office.
Scores requested before the due date will be delivered by mid-July. Upon receiving and reviewing your AP and/or IB
scores, applicable credits will be added to your Mines transcript and you will be registered for the appropriate courses for
the fall semester. Requests submitted after the due date will result in delays and could cause errors in your fall
registration.
Tuition Classification Form -
Completion and submission of the Tuition Classification Form, found on your Applicant
Portal, is required for all incoming students. If you are under 23 years of age, your parent/legal guardian must assist you
with completing this form. If you have any questions about this requirement, please contact the Office of Admissions.
Transfer Credit - Are you planning to transfer college credit into Mines? Transfer credit evaluations are available via
Trailhead under Degree Works. Transferrable courses will appear in Degree Works within two weeks of receipt of official
transcripts by Mines. Courses and credit can only be evaluated using official college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are
not sufficient). If you have not already done so, please request an official transcript from all colleges attended to be sent
to Colorado School of Mines Office of Admissions.
Oredigger Checklist - Make sure you're checking the boxes each month for a successful and smooth transition to
campus! The checklist is available in your Applicant Portal and will continue to be available throughout the summer. Be
sure to complete the Incoming Student Placement Survey and Intended Major form by July 1, 2022. These items are
important to helping the Registrar's Office create your fall schedule.
Have you really #MadeItMines? If you have double-deposited (sent in deposits to more than one school) or chosen to
attend another school, that’s okay! But please let us know as soon as possible if you no longer plan to attend Mines.
Given high demand, we will be at capacity this year. Placing a deposit at Mines begins several internal processes to ensure
a smooth transition for our incoming students such as room assignments in on-campus housing, financial aid packages,
student advising, creating course schedules and more, so it’s important for planning purposes to know who will be joining
us in the fall. We will need every spot, so please help your fellow students out by letting us know your plans as soon as
possible.
If you are no longer interested in attending Mines, please let us know by emailing [email protected]
so we can update your record. We will refund your $200 enrollment deposit if you withdraw your admission
before July 1, 2022.
Deferring (Postponing) Admission - Maybe you want to attend Mines… but just not yet. A lot can happen between
when you applied and now, and waiting to start your college journey may be the right decision for you. If this sounds like
you, a deferral of admission may be the right path at this time. For those who have deposited and intended to enroll for
fall 2022, we will offer a one-year deferral option for a fall 2023 start. Students will retain merit scholarship offers and you
will have the ability to take up to 24 credit hours at a different school, should you so choose. This option must be
selected before July 1, 2022. If deferring admission sounds right for you, please read all the information on our
deferral webpage or reach out to discuss your options by contacting us at [email protected] or (303) 384-2027.
Online Resources -
Incoming Oredigger Webpage: You will find a bunch of resources on our incoming Oredigger webpage, such
as what to do to prepare for arrival in Golden, getting around campus and town, computer recommendations and
more. Please visit this page regularly.
Incoming Parent & Families Webpage: You will find all the resources you need to contribute to your
student’s success on our incoming parent and families webpage. Here you will find links to the Applicant Portal,

It's not too late to sign up for the E
3
Program! Start at Mines This Summer
Summer Early Entry Enrollment (E
3
) students get a head start on core courses (all of which meet graduation
requirements). Courses are taken in a more relaxed summer setting when classes are smaller and the pace of life on
campus is more leisurely. Some courses are even available online! Summer E
3
students make new friends ahead of the fall
semester and become familiar with the expectations of the Mines academic experience.
How E
3
Works - Incoming students can begin taking courses during our summer term rather than starting in the
originally planned fall term by enrolling in the E
3
Program, as long as the course prerequisite(s) is/are complete. The
summer term is compressed, allowing completion of a full semester course in six weeks. Services and facilities such as
summer tutoring and academic assistance, the Student Health Center and the Student Center are open (but limited)
throughout the summer and you will have access to them. The Student Recreation Center is also open but Summer
E
3
students will have to incur the monthly fee if they want to utilize this resource (it will be included in mandatory fees in
the fall and spring semesters). Once the summer term ends and the course/grade is posted to your student record, it will
be applied to your official Mines degree-seeking transcript.
The summer term begins June 27 and ends August 5, 2022.
Please note:
This is a commuter-only opportunity. Some
courses are available online. On-campus housing is not available for summer E
3
students. Summer 2022 Tuition and Fees
are based on 2021-2022 tuition and fees. Students taking classes in the summer are generally not eligible for financial aid.
Please email [email protected] before filling out the application if you are requesting financial aid.
Please refer to the list in the form below for highlighted courses. All summer course offerings are available to take if you
meet the prerequisite(s) and there is remaining capacity. If this opportunity is of interest to you, please use the button
below, enter your Applicant Portal credentials and submit the Summer E

application as soon as possible, but no later
than Monday, June 20.

Loans, Outside Scholarships and More - Reminders from Financial Aid
Complete Financial Aid Requirements - Be sure you have reviewed any outstanding financial aid requirements in
Trailhead. Once in Trailhead, click on the Financial Aid tab, then Requirements (light blue box) and 2022-2023 to ensure
you have turned in all financial aid documentation. You can also securely upload required documents in the same place.
Financial aid will pay out in August if all requirements are complete.

webpage.
Do not adjust your FAFSA
!
Adjustments to the FAFSA can only be made by the Office of Financial Aid.
Loan Information - Once you have made your housing decision (on-campus/off-campus/with a parent or guardian), you
can apply for loans to cover your expenses. We recommend applying for loans by July 31, 2022, to ensure timely
processing.
Please check your Mines email account for two emails in the next week - one with detailed instructions
about student loans and another about parent loans.
Proxy Access in Trailhead - A good way to stay up-to-date on what is happening is for you to give Proxy access to
parents/guardians. This allows you to designate read-only access for student account information, financial aid
requirements, grades, class schedules and more. Visit our Proxy Access page for more information.
Report Outside Scholarships - If you are receiving scholarships from a source outside of Mines, you must report the
scholarship to the Office of Financial Aid. Report outside scholarships here. Scholarship checks should be made payable to
Colorado School of Mines. Please include your CWID on the check for timely processing. Mail checks to:

and great adventures while experiencing different cultures? If so, consider a major in Mining Engineering! Mines has been
ranked as the #1 Mining program in the world since 2016.
Mining is essential for everyone - everything in our built world is made from

warming, requires metals and minerals to produce renewable energy. Today,
mining is one of the highest tech industries with great jobs and opportunities for
advancement. Visit the Department of Mining Engineering website to learn more.
Mining Engineering Highlight - Meet Joe Waite
Joe graduated from Mines in 2016 and has been working in the aggregates
industry with Lehigh Hanson, Inc. for the past six years. Joe began his career in
Irving, Texas with the company’s capital projects group and led their
digitalization effort for North America. He was then appointed project manager of
an aggregate plant expansion in Austin, Texas. After the plant was constructed,
he was selected as the facility's Plant Manager and was responsible for the safety
of its 25 employees and the production of two million tons of aggregate per year.
Today, Joe is the Business Analyst for the South Region Finance Group and is
involved with all financial aspects of the business including profit and loss
oversight, capital planning, merger and acquisition analysis, and sales and
operations planning.
Joe Waite, a 2016 alum of the Mining
Engineering Department.
When asked about the impact the Mining Department had, Joe responded, “The
versatility of the Mining Engineering degree should not be underestimated. The
foundation it provided me is what has allowed me to move from engineering to
information technology, to project management, to management and to finance.
It teaches an understanding of all technical disciplines and applies it to the
mining industry. Combined with the passion and dedication of the faculty and
staff, this is what made my time at Mines so invaluable for my future. Our natural
resources demand responsible caretakers that is what Mining Engineers do!”

Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship Opportunity
Sigma Phi Epsilon hosts a Balanced Man Scholarship each year. This scholarship is for male-identifying and non-binary
people who will be attending Mines for the first time in the fall of 2022. Sigma Phi Epsilon values people who have taken
on leadership roles and have demonstrated academic, spiritual and physical achievement. Interest in fraternity life is not
required to apply. Applying to this scholarship is in no way related to the process of joining the fraternity or a commitment
to join. We look forward to reviewing applications from those who lead well-rounded lives and wish to continue living a
balanced life throughout their time at Mines. Apply by July 16, 2022.
This year, the scholarship is being awarded in memory of our late brother, Gregory
“Greg” Troy Miller, who was taken from us on May 18, 2021. Greg was an incredible
brother and true friend. He joined the fraternity his first semester of college and found
success in the brotherhood, where he served diligently as Vice President of Finance and
set the chapter up for future successes and triumphs. He aided the fraternity by
spearheading multiple projects with passion and communication. He was a pillar of the
fraternity and a perfect example of the values for which we stand.

Did you know? Teachers in the United States rate their lives better than all other occupation groups, trailing only
physicians.
The Teach@Mines program offers courses, advising and certification pathways to help you explore the teaching
profession. In addition, Teach@Mines offers a minor in teaching and a Bachelor of Science in engineering with a STEM
teaching focus area to prepare students for teaching careers at any level, from elementary to university-level instruction.
Please email Wendy ([email protected]), Allie ([email protected]) or David ([email protected]) if you are
interested in learning more about the Teach@Mines program!
