Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai and Villuppuram stations during day
time.
Presently, Southern Railway operates only one day train service
(Train No.06795/06796-Cholan Express) between Tiruchchirappalli
and Chennai Egmore stations through Mainline section, which is not
able to cater to the need of the travelling public living in the section.
Moreover, the Cholan Express is a fully reserved train, which has
more number of Air conditioned sleeper coaches, Non-AC sleeper
class coaches and less number of ordinary second class coaches.
Also, the train timing of the Cholan Express is not suitable for the
Mainline section people to reach Chennai. It is a long pending
demand of people of the delta districts to operate an intercity day
train without any reserved coaches, comprising only second-class
sitting coaches suitably to reach the Capital before noon.
So, I request the Southern Railway through this letter to initiate steps
for introduction of a fully unreserved Intercity Express Train during
day time, which may be duly leaving Trichy Junction at 7.00 am and
reaching the Chennai- Egmore Station around 1300 hours and the
same train may leave the Chennai Egmore station at 13.30 and reach
Trichy junction at 21.00 hours.
The train service will be useful for the traders, students' community,
and job seeking youths etc., to reach Chennai during day time.
Response:
The request of the Hon MP for introduction of a new Intercity Express
between Chennai Egmore and Tiruchchirappalli via Mayiladuthurai is
noted. The powers for introduction of new trains are vested with Railway
Board.
