“jeet?”, that is Midwest manners, for, did you eat?” Also,
freeways are called expressways and trac signals are
stop and go lights. And, if you miss your ight, lose your
luggage, or forget your phone charger at home — “tough
tomatoes.

Long-Term Parking Now Features
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
ChargePoint and Tesla SuperCharge
Stations Keep EV Driving Passengers
Charged-Up While Parking at STS
As part of the Sonoma County Airport (STS) parking
lot renovation and expansion, the Airport now oers
expanded ChargePoint electric vehicle (EV) charging
stations located in both the long-term parking lot and in
front of the Airport terminal, and Tesla Charging Stations
in the long-term parking lot. This invaluable upgrade
is another feature that highlights the benecial ways in
which STS accommodates regional passengers, and is
doing our part to support clean air initiatives.
North Bay consumers and Airport passengers driving
zero-emission electric vehicles is a rapidly growing
market. STS is excited to now be a CPO (charging point
operator) for both ChargePoint — the worlds largest and
most open electric vehicle (EV) charging network, and
Tesla, which has a network of 1,359 Charging Stations
across the nation.
The EV charging stations at STS were partially funded
through a partnership with the Bay Area Air Quality
Management District (BAAQMD) Charge! Program, which
provides funding to public agencies and businesses to
expand the network of publicly available plug-in electric
vehicle charging stations at workplaces, multifamily
dwelling units, and public locations.
To learn more about ChargePoint or Tesla EV charging
options at STS, visit:
www.ySTS.com/passengers/parking
We’re dedicated to continually nding
innovative ways to accommodate
our loyal passengers and upgrade our
facilities. One of the greatest benets of
utilizing STS is the hassle-free experience
we provide. Providing EV charging
stations is yet another way to maintain
STS as the Airport of choice for regional
travelers — and do something good
for the environment.

PCAM is Moving!
By Andy Werback, Dana Johnson, David Ford
Do you recognize this place? Welcome to the new home
of the Pacic Coast Air Museum!
After the 2018 Wings Over Wine Country Airshow, the
Museum began its long-anticipated move to its new
location, in and around the historic WWII Butler Hangar
(above). This will be our new home as we transition from
the old location at the corner of N. Laughlin and Becker,
just o Airport Blvd in Santa Rosa.
Just to note, the transition will take place in several phases.
The Museums Gift Shop and main entrance are still at
the old location at One Air Museum Way o Becker, and
it’s a short walk over to the new display area. Sometime
soon in 2019, we plan to start operating out of the old
Dragony Aviation building on N. Laughlin at the corner
of Copperhill Parkway. As you drive by, you will notice
signicant changes in making the location more visible
and accessible.
The new location provides a large concrete ramp for our
aircraft and makes it so much easier to see all sides of the
aircraft. It will certainly be much easier to move them
for maintenance or as part of the airshow. In addition,
the Butler Hangar provides nearly 30,000 square feet of
exhibit and event space, and the overall museum acreage
is approximately 3.5 acres. We have over 30 historic
aircraft on display dating from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the
Cold War, and the modern era.
Looking forward, the Museum is well along in the
planning for the 2019 Wings Over Wine Country Airshow.
This year PCAM welcomes the return of the Canadian
Forces Snowbirds jet demonstration team, and also the
US Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt close air support jet as part
of the overall program.
Please also join us for our traditional events at the Museum
itself – we have Hot Dog Thursday starting in April (the
7

First Thursday of the month from April to October) for hot
dogs, a drink, and Museum admission for only $5. We are
open ve days a week, Wednesday through Sunday, from

Simulator to boost your imagination and challenge your
ying skills.

Carlsbad Jet Center
Open for Business
Joins Avfuel-Branded Network
CARLSBAD, Calif. / January 24, 2019 / GENERAL AVIATION
NEWS – Avfuel welcomes Carlsbad Jet Center—the new
independent FBO at the McClellan-Palomar Airport
(KCRQ) — to its network of branded FBOs.
Under new ownership and management, which replaced
Magellan Aviation, Carlsbad Jet Center began operations
on January 18, 2019, under the esteemed leadership of
Josh and Julia Hochberg—owners of Sonoma Jet Center
(KSTS). With their guidance, the team at Sonoma Jet
Center has earned an exceptional reputation for safety,
customer service and community involvement. Carlsbad
Jet Center will be run with that same dedication to safety,
customers and community.
Were excited to step in and lead this team, said Josh
Hochberg. “Our priority is to provide our customers
with seamless operations and teamwork to ensure our
customers, their aircraft and their passengers are happy
and well taken care of. Our promise to them is to adhere
to our corporate values of safety, customer, community,
teamwork and innovation through this transitional
period and beyond, providing regular, honest and candid
communication.
The FBO’s management team already has a plan in place
to improve upon the operations professionalism with
NATA Safety 1st training and working toward IS-BAH
certication, just as the Hochbergs have done at their
Sonoma Jet Center location.
Furthermore, the FBO’s new operator plans to nish
construction on the long-awaited FBO terminal. Toward
this end, Carlsbad Jet Center has already retained
key personnel to see the development through to
completion.
The 10,000 square foot facility will oer all the modern
amenities to which general aviation customers have
become accustomed, including leasable oce space, a
conference room, a pilot lounge and passenger waiting
areas. This addition will bring Carlsbad Jet Center facilities
to more than 180,000 square feet of hangar and oce
space.
Carlsbad Jet Center oers operators convenient access
to Southern California attractions—including beautiful
beaches, surng, resorts and golf courses—and bustling
business within 15 minutes of its operation. The FBO
boasts the most private location on the airport with
quick access o the runway and such oerings as hangar
space, full fuel services ground handling and concierge
services.

TruAirs New Hangar at STS
Spring is announcing the completion of the newest hangar development on the Charles M.
Schulz – Sonoma County Airport! TruAir, LLC, started their design and construction in 2017 and
they are looking forward to occupying their new home this May. They are anticipating a ight
school to share their new space along other aircraft based here at the airport.
The new hangar was built to green building standards while allowing the function of the space
for aircraft activities. Solar enhances the environmentally friendly building in addition to saving
money on electrical costs. The entire hangar will consist of 15,800± square feet of aircraft
storage and 4,500± square feet of oce space. There are approximately 31 parking spaces in
front of the landside entrance from Becker Blvd. The hangar is also equipped with ADA features

Airport runway from the South
Oceano Dunes is a haven for ATV enthusiasts
Old Juans Cantina on Pier Avenue, Oceano, California
- Featured Fly-In Destination -
Oceano County Airport (L52)
By Plane & Pilot
The last few times I visited Oceano, I approached from the
south. This coastal route takes you over Santa Barbara and
then near to Santa Ynez and the Danish village of Solvang.
Its fascinating to see how the landscape becomes greener
and more attractive the farther north you y. This area is
famous for its vineyards.
The approach presents no particular diculties.
Unfortunately, due to the restricted airspace around
Vandenburg Air Force Base, the coast directly south of
Oceano is a no-y zone. Morro Bay VOR will help you with
your navigation.
Oceano County Airport is located only a stones throw
from the sea, right between Pismo Beach and Oceano
Dunes, on a seemingly endless expanse of golden sand.
One thing that will really surprise visitors is the number
of cars that are milling around. Oceano Dunes is the only
California State Park where vehicles may be driven on the
beach. The dunes have, therefore, become a real paradise
for o-road fans. The experts all drive their own beach
buggies, but novices can rent vehicles there and give it
a try. You even have to drive across the beach to get to
the campsite. Pismo Beach also has given its name to a
large species of clam. Originally found in abundance in
this vicinity, the Pismo Clam has now declined alarmingly
in numbers.
There are quite a few places to eat and drink directly on
the beach itself. If you fancy a little more peace and quiet,
theres a restaurant with great Mexican food (Old Juan’s
Cantina) around 10 minutes’ walk to the northeast of the
airport on the U.S. Highway 1.

North Run-Up Signage
In order to better identify the North Run-up on the
aireld, the Airport has designed and installed three new
signs identifying the location of the North run-up area,
which consists of: Two 9 ft. long “North run-up location
signs, installed on the boundaries of the run-up area
and one 10 ft. directional sign installed south of TWY
A- A3 intersection. We are optimistic that these signs will
provide heightened pilot awareness on the aireld and
enhance safety in the movement area.

Annual 100% Badge Audit
Starting this month, the Airport Managers oce will
be conducting its annual 100% badge audit. Notices
will be emailed to Authorized Signers and it will be the
responsibility of each Authorized Signer to account for
all badges listed on their audit form. If an individual no
longer needs a badge, that badge must be IMMEDIATELY
returned to the Airport Managers oce or a $150 ne
will be levied against the Authorized Signer. Failure to
complete the annual audit will result in the deactivation
of all badges listed under that Authorized Signer and
will include a ne of $200 as well as a subsequent $10
reactivation fee charged per badge.
This audit is a requirement for compliance with TSA
regulations and applies to all badges issued by the
Airport. This includes badges that were recorded as part
of the 10% audit conducted at the end of 2018. As part
of being an Authorized Signer, it is expected that records
on all issued badges be kept and maintained and this
audit provides an opportunity not only to comply with
the regulations, but to make sure that those records are
current.
In addition to the annual 100% audit, the Airport
Managers oce will also conduct two randomly selected
audits of 10% of the badges throughout the year. The rst
one will take place in July, with the second following in
November.

FAA Inspection
The Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport is
mandated to abide by stringent rules and regulations as a
commercial service Airport.
The Airport must meet and exceed those measures in
order to comply as a Part 139 Airport. If FAA nds that
an airport is not meeting its obligations, it often imposes
an administrative action. It can also impose a nancial
penalty for each day the airport continues to violate a Part
139 requirement. In extreme cases, FAA might revoke the
airport’s certicate or limit the areas of an airport where
air carriers can land or takeo.
To ensure that airports with Airport Operating Certicates
are meeting the requirements of Part 139, nearly 35
FAA Airport Certication Safety Inspectors conduct
certication inspections. These inspections typically occur
yearly, but FAA can also make unannounced inspections
and more.
Certication inspections include auditing the following:
Aircraft rescue and reghting inspection, Movement
area inspection, Administrative inspection of airport
les and paperwork, Fueling facilities inspection, Night
inspection.
The Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport’s
inspection was completed on January 24th 2019 and
we are really proud to announce that not only does the
Airport fully comply with Part 139 rules and regulations
but has exceeded those expectations by having a Zero
discrepancy inspection! The Airport is really proud of its
operations and maintenance team and the collaboration
provided by all the stakeholders that took part in this
inspection. Great Job!
